SERIES 2: generosity - Matthew 6
What’s this series all about?
The generosity series is mostly still based in the Sermon on the Mount so is a continuation of our explorations in the book of Matthew. We will be using Practicing the Way videos and materials, with the video teaching one week followed by an MCC sermon on a similar topic to give our own MCC voice and NZ context to the teaching.
The series explores the following topics:
· There is more joy in giving than in receiving
· Watch out for greed
· All we have belongs to God
· Give generously to the poor
11-18 may 2025: There is more joy in giving than in receiving
The Practice (below) from the booklet is an example using money, however, there are many different ways to give spontaneous acts of generosity. It might be an act of service to someone, or having a smile ready for a stranger.
The important thing is to open your heart to God and see what kind of spontaneous act of generosity is a loving sacrificial thing for you to do - asking God for the opportunity to bless someone.
The Practice:
• Set aside a specific amount of money. It can be a little or a lot, whatever you decide. But before you name an amount, pause and open your heart to God and see if a number comes to mind.
• Take cash out of an ATM to carry with you, or earmark the amount in your debit account to have ready when the right opportunity comes.
• Ask God to give you an opportunity to bless someone.
• Then, just keep your eyes open.
